Super7 1986 Acid Green ALIENS Warrior Now Available.

Our 18 inch tall Kenner inspired lime flavoured friend is now available from Super7’s online store.  The price is what I expected it to be, US$195.  Somewhat expensive, I say; but we just have to suck it up.  Gah.

Here’s what Super7 have to say about it: “The imagined successor to the 1979 Kenner Alien toy.  Fully articulated with glow accents, metallic snapping jaws (operated with a trigger on the back of the head like the original 1979 toy), and retro style packaging that includes a double-sided 11″x17″ poster.  The figure stands 18-inches and can also hang from its tail like the original 1979 Alien figure.”

“Glow accents” …hmmm…  I’m not so sure about that.  I suspect someone at Super7 might like to amend their copy & paste description.

All the same, I’m looking forward to seeing mine arrive.  Let’s see how long it takes for this bad ass booger boy to get to Australia!

Video Review: 2017 Eaglemoss Parker and Queen Alien.

Let’s check out some reviews of cool new stuff from Eaglemoss!  Occasionally I like to feature other people’s work on the site and today we have Baptiste Coudert reviewing the Eaglemoss Hero Collector ALIEN Parker figure on YouTube:

This item does look neat and it’s great seeing these otherwise under represented characters like Parker given this kind of treatment.  …but wait, there’s more! Baptiste has Continue reading

Supercast No. 7: Brian Flynn Talks Acid Green Alien.

Super7 have revealed in Episode 7 of their Supercast on YouTube a number of Halloween reveals and exclusive updates. Amongst all the Misfits and Masters of the Universe items becoming available soon, Brian Flynn also demonstrates Super7’s upcoming 18 inch tall clear Acid Green Xenomorph.

It’s a beauty!  Not a lot of details but it will probably be available around Halloween and will most likely cost US$199 from their online store.  That’s the price point Super7’s previous ALIENS figures in this range have sold so that’s what I’m expecting.  There’s a couple more screen grabs after the break. HIDEOUS PLASTIC – The Book – October Update.

Work continues on the 1979 Kenner ALIEN action figure book, HIDEOUS PLASTIC – In stores everyone can hear you scream.

It’s time to give you some idea of what its content will be comprised of. This preview of the book’s 3 Contents pages below outlines the locked down features present in the 200+ page book. I’m still filling in a few remaining gaps here and there and today, for example, I completed documenting Kenner’s 1979 ALIEN Movie Viewer, something I’ve been wanting to add to the book for a while.

As you can see by inspecting the accompanying images (See below) the book is substantial and organised into 5 major sections, each section consisting of multiple ‘Chapters’. The first section documents the Kenner figure’s history and influences. Section Continue reading

The Secret Life of 1986 ALIENS Action Figures.

No ALIENS action figures or toys were made available as movie tie-in merchandise to accompany its release in 1986.  Nonetheless, action figures did play a role in the making of the movie.

This article outlines how one of the worst ALIEN action figures ever released contributed to one of the best action movies ever made.  You can read about it here.

NECA Reveals ALIENS Colonel Cameron Packaging.

NECA have shared with us all the packaging for their upcoming Colonial Cameron figure as this week’s #facehuggerfriday reveal.  The clam shell packaging is the standard arrangement we see a lot of NECA’s stuff distributed. Colonel Cameron bears the actual likeness of ALIENS Director, James Cameron.  To my knowledge this item will be out soon.

I guess some fanboys might get all gooey about having the Director of ALIENS dressed up in colonial marine garb and carrying a clapper board but it’s not my idea of a ‘love doll’.  Gimme Meredith Vickers any day.  Hubba hubba!  Continue reading

Super7 Teases Some More Transparent Goodness.

Another image posted on Instagram shows off a close up of what appears to be the torso of Super7’s upcoming transparent iteration of their 18 inch Kenner inspired 1986 ALIENS figure.

Once again, there’s not a lot to go on here.  Except it looks like the figure is going to be green, much like the recent ‘Acid Green’ blind box ReAction Alien figure Super7 released earlier this year – except substantially larger.

Green is good.

[UPDATE] I just found out this item – whatever it is exactly – will be “Arriving on 10.31.17”.  The 31st of October, for those who live outside the US like I do, that’s Hallowe’en.

2 New Additions to the Prototypes Gallery.

We have 2 new additions to the Prototype figure gallery for your enjoyment.

First up is a set of images of a hard copy prototype of the original 1979 Kenner ALIEN action figure tail. Second is an amazing prototype of the Queen Alien that was used to create the mass market version of HRH as she appears in Kenner’s 1994 Action Masters die cast miniatures series.

The addition of these 2 items now means all of Kenner’s major ALIEN toy lines/waves/ranges are represented by at least one prototype item at the most basic level.  That’s a great milestone for the gallery I have been hoping to achieve and it has now been realised.  I am hoping to add more sometime soon.

Special thanks respectively goes to Bruce White and Steve Dwyer for images and information regarding these pieces.

If you have any images of ALIEN prototypes and would like to contribute them to the Gallery, please contact me.  I’d love to see your contribution on the page.

The Prototype Figures Gallery can be found here; or from the drop down ‘Galleries’ menu at the top of this page.

Eaglemoss Space Jockey Figurine Available Soon.

Our silent space traveling friend, the enigma known only as ‘The Space Jockey’,  wil be available soon as a figurine by Eaglemoss.  The 22cm tall ‘Bonus Edtion 1’ statuette is now available for pre-order from the HeroCollector online store.

At 2kg, this is going to be a weighty item for its size. Here’s what Eaglemoss have to say about it

“This impressive figure is produced in detailed polyresin to capture the intricate biomechanical design inspired by the work of legendary artist HR Giger, and hand-painted to recreate the haunting colours in the scene, one of the sci-fi’s most memorable moments. This Space Jockey stands over 22 cm tall, runs over 20 cm in diameter, weighs more than 2kg, and makes for a unique standalone piece or an imposing addition to any Alien collection.”

Available for delivery from 27th October.

Hiya Toys to Produce ALIEN: Covenant Figures.

Exclusive News from INFINITE EARTHS claims that the merchandising activity for ALIEN: Covenant is far from over. It appears that Hiya Toys will be releasing a pair of figures based on the movie some time in the near future.  Anticipated for release is the familiar form of the Covenant Alien and the pallid shape of the Neomorph.  Both are expected to be in the 1/18 scale.

Here’s what the News post has to say “Hiya Toys, the company behind the 1/18 scale series of Aliens: Colonial Marines action figures, will be producing new figures based off of Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant. Not a whole lot of details are available at this time, however we do know that the new line will be produced in collaboration with 20th Century Fox, and that Hiya will be kicking off the line with 1/18 scale versions of both the Xenomorph and the Neomorph seen in the film.”  A little more information is available on their initial News post.

Prototype Gallery Update.

In the interest of providing new and interesting content to everyone visiting HIDEOUS PLASTIC, I have the pleasure of announcing 3 excellent additions to the prototype gallery.  New content includes a terrific example of a 1992 ALIENS Alien Queen test shot mounted on a mock up backing proof along with a pair of different prototype versions of the ALIEN: Resurrection Signature Series Warrior ALIEN.Photographs and a brief description accompanies each of these 3 items.  Check them out.  They are fantastic!

As usual, these entries would not have been possible without the kind permission of contributors allowing me to use this content.  My appreciation and gratefulness goes to Steve Dwyer and toyzonehk.  Thank you both for helping to expand the content of the prototype gallery.

While on the subject of prototype figures, I have added a few more details to the already extant article on the curious history of Kenner’s Pocket Size ALIEN Legend  You may like to check that out, too.  Thank you again Steve for the additional information and the use of the extra image content.  Too much awesome and I’m pleased to see it!

Anyone who is in possession of any prototype ALIEN action figure image material is welcome to make a contribution to the gallery.  Please contact me if you wish to do so.  You will be credited.

I’ve also added a link to the ALIEN Dreaming gallery to the Gallery item on the drop down menu at the top of the front page.
