One of several boxes I am expecting to turn up on my doorstep has arrived. Inside the box are several incomplete Kenner ALIEN figures along with an assortment of very useful parts. Each one of these items will be put to good use in the coming months as part of the HIDEOUS PLASTIC KickStarter campaign.
The package includes 3 incomplete figures along with an assortment of very useable parts: 1x head, 1x carapace (or dome, if you like), 1x tail, 1x shoulder spike, 3x pairs of arms and a set of 4x screws. Those 3 incomplete figures in the back row will be disassembled, cleaned and used to reconstruct 2 good quality figures out of them. The 3rd dismantled figure will join the other assemblage of spare parts I have in my possession and will probably be enough to build another figure out of. The remainder of spare parts will be allocated to other figures currently waiting for arms, a tail and so on.
Once built, they’re not quite finished yet and will still need some additional attention. I’ll need to purchase some reproduction parts – notably, some carapace, tongue and spike pieces to fill in missing original Kenner parts that are otherwise extremely difficult to source and acquire. These are the usual common parts needed to make these things feature complete and are frequently missing from these old toys.
Once these figures are fully rehabilitated they will look like this:
Not too shabby. Each one of these figures was in a similar condition to those in the photo at top. Now, they are each impressively restored, feature complete and display beautifully. Note that they each hold a pose, too. The arms have been tightened and are raised to stay in place. These figures are worth substantially more now than when they first arrived.
Some parts have had to be sourced from 3rd party manufacturers to complete their presentation here; but they are still without a doubt Kenner ALIEN action figures regardless. That fact doesn’t change.
As part of the KickStarter campaign, I will be offering 25 of these refurbished figures to Backers. Keep in mind this activity constitutes the highest tier of the campaign and these things are not cheap. Even the banged up items I received today set me back a small fortune. I’d rather not even think about it, actually.
