During the course of the next 50 days, we’re going to look at some of the other action figures and models that will grace the pages of HIDEOUS PLASTIC – In stores everyone can hear you scream. First up is this rather obscure item from Tsukuda Hobby, released in 1995.
This Japanese pressing is the 2nd item from Tsukuda Hobby derived their product from the original 1979 kenner action figure and it is generally considered to be inferior. While this ‘complete model’ is unremarkable by most definitions, it was the first Kenner derived ALIEN figure to feature its carapace properly fixed in place. All prior variants of the figure – including the original – have a tendency for the dome to fall off and be easily lost.
This figure is often considered to be the ‘black’ variant despite the fact it features several silver highlighted points of interest in its body. This figure is relatively easy to come by at a decent price but like any item found in its box can be expected to break the triple figure mark.

One of my all time favorite Big Chaps. Tsukuda itself has one flaw – paint flaking. Everything else is beautifully done. The size and simplicity of paint and articulation make these very nice show pieces. Less photogenic than their newer counterparts, they hold up even better with time as we don’t see much in this scale that isn’t a high end statue.
The Big Chaps dome also aged quite nicely and has a lovely yellow tint to it.
Lots of details, lots of sculpting work. These jumbo sized figures are something I think any Alien fan would love in their collection.
