ALIEN UNIVERSE Merchandise Sneak Peak.

Over at A L I E N  UNIVERSE a selection of sneak peaks at upcoming merchandise has been posted.  Some of these items are very welcome…  others are just, um, strange.

Most exciting is our first good look at what NECA has in store for their new ALIEN: Covenant action figure.  Here it is at last!  Fantastic!  Six fingers and digitigrade legs along with a slew of fresh interpretations of familiar features adorn the critter we love to fear. This is no doubt the 7 inch version of the figure being posed next to NECA’s also recently announced Kenner tribute version of Vasquez.  This new Alien figure is instant want list material as far as I am concerned.  Gimme.  Now.

Also impressive is Eaglemoss’ new Space Jockey figurine.  I’ve no idea what the scale of this item is. It’s hard to gauge by this image.  The site cites this figure as being the “first shocking sign of alien life for the Nostrum ship’s crew.”  True, dat.

From this point things start to get a little odd and it’s no surprise that Funko’s long running and popular POP! range of figures based on ALIEN: Covenant have also been revealed. Here we have 2 versions of the Alien from the new movie, one of which features what appears to be battle damage; David in what looks like Covenant crew gear… hey, wait.  Shouldn’t that be Walter..?  …or has Funko just dropped a big spoiler with this one?  Daniels toting an assault rifle and Oram getting facehugged completes the current Funko POP! line up.  Spoilers, spoilers, spoilers and more spoilers!

From this point onwards the level of odd just increases.  Here’s a set of 5 wooden nesting dolls.  The fact that these are made of wood and not plastic makes ’em kind of classy.  Well, kind of.  These matryoshka pieces were created by nesting doll artist, Andrew Stattmiller and released by PPW Toys.

Finally, while the pinnacle of strange appears at the bottom of this list, the weirdest piece of ALIEN merchandise I’ve seen for a while goes to PPW Toys’ latest addition to their Mr. Potato Head series of figures, the ALIEN PopTater.  This figure is 6 inches tall and features detachable limbs and parts that can be mixed with other figures in their PopTaters line.  Way too much crazy here but it does sound like fun after too much beer and pizza, I think.

Anyway, there you have it.  What I anticipate to be a deluge of new ALIEN themed merchandise has already started.  There’s no information on release dates for any of these items just yet and no doubt we’ve only seen the very start of what promises to be a flood of announcements.

Better lock up your wallet and credit cards.  ALIEN Day looks like it’s going to be a massive roller coaster ride full of revelations for fans, collectors and people who really aren’t bothered about how much money they spend on weird stuff.
