Photobucket – Destroying Forums Everywhere.

The image hosting site Photobucket is doing a great disservice to its users – and users of the internet in general. As a result, many images hosted by Photobucket across the internet are now blocked and not being displayed properly without users making a payment of $399/year.

Fortunately, HIDEOUS PLASTIC has not been affected by these changes and this site is 100% safe from Photobucket’s new policy. All images here are being displayed properly.

Unfortunately I do have forum posts elsewhere that are now rendered useless due to the blocking of dozens of images due to Photobucket’s sudden change of policy. Foremost of all the affected forums I’ve contributed is the thread present at MegoMuseum detailing at considerable length how to repair common problems with old Kenner ALIEN action figures. This is a 15 page thread that has largely been rendered useless as an abundance of images are now no longer being displayed.

I have no intention to pay Photobucket their premium fee (call it ‘extortion’ or ‘ransom’ if you like). Instead, I intend to resurrect much of the MegoMuseum forum content here on HIDEOUS PLASTIC. This will be a time consuming process and while the MegoMuseum content was 18 months worth of effort it shouldn’t take that long to rebuild a more focused and organised set of repair instructions here.  It will just end up being better under one roof, anyway.

Thank you everyone who visited the old MegoMuseum Kenner ALIEN repair thread and I’m sorry it is no longer the useful resource it once was. None of this is my doing. It was a lot of fun to assemble and as of yesterday it had been viewed in excess of 21,000 during the past 2 years. I’m sure it must have been of use to somebody.
