Here’s a great sample of the 1979 Kenner ALIEN toy for sale on eBay. The head dome, the spike on his back and all mouth parts are present and all of his moving parts and features work perfectly fine. It’s unfortunate then, he has some damage to his head dome. It’s been melted slightly on one side, scarring it irreparably. The seller expecting to sell this item for US$470 (offers accepted) which includes the heat damage imperfection. BONUS!Aside from the heat damage on the lower, middle edge of the right side of the dome, it’s a nice piece. US$470 is a lot to ask for, though; and it’s a good thing the rest of the figure is complete and in fine shape. He also manages to hold a pose with his arms, which is quite a feat in itself considering the neoprene anchors used to attach the limbs to an internal post are as old as the toy itself.

These anchors become fatigued during the course of four decades, relax and break easily. Just imagine any rubber band fastening and holdings objects under tension like this for forty years and you’ll be incredulous at how those weighty arms can still remain aloft! It’s unusual, uncommon and unlikely. Especially when seen as a pair depicted here. While it’s impossible to confirm with these photos, the arms on this sample may have been repaired.

I’m also tending to believe the crest on the figure’s back may be seated into a damaged slot. Not only does it appear to hang a little lower than it should; but the seller describes the figure as including the “REMOVABLE SPIKE”, which is not meant to be removable and likely to be seated in situ but loose.

Regardless, it’s a nice sample, albeit sporting the imperfection on the dome; and at this price you should expect the figure to be near perfect and unaltered. Maybe, even include a box. So, make an offer on this item if it interests you. Similarly complete but better condition items do appear on eBay for less.
