First Good Look at NECA’s New ALIEN Covenant Figure.

The first solid image of NECA’s new ‘Big Chap’, Xenomorph, Protomorph, Alien – whatever you want to call it – from 20th Century Fox upcoming ALIEN Covenant movie has been posted on Twitter.

The new critter possesses a number of variations from Giger’s original designs.  It’s a lot fleshier in appearance and much of its musculature is visible on the surface as well as an abundance of blue veins covering its limbs.  This is a significant departure from the more biomechanical integument we have seen on the original design suggesting that this version is part of an evolutionary process of a sort.

There’s also a number of characteristics that have obviously been retained from the original design harking back to the first ALIEN and adopted here.  The elongated translucent head carapace with the skull visage clearly visible beneath is a welcome return to Giger’s original concept.  A real human skull was used in sculpting the creature back in 1979 and this is the first time since then an Alien on film has carried this feature.  The hands look like they have 6 fingers apiece and the barbed tail is also present.  The new digitigrade legs look great, too.  The quad dorsal appendages are longer and more slender  and the shoulder arches are now hose like rather than completely filled in as we have seen in previous iterations.

Articulation on the figure appears to be the standard arrangement we have come to expect from NECA with the double jointed knees ensuring that the figure can crouch down extremely low as we can see here.  A flexible wire core tail and other standard joints look like they also default on this item.

Looking forward to seeing more about this figure in the coming weeks as well as the unrevealed Neomorph figure that is also known to be licenced for release by NECA.
