This custom made oddity is currently available on Ebay with a starting bid of US $39.  The 3.75 inch tall figure listed for sale features the body of a Super7 ReAction ALIEN with a Kenner Star Wars Hammerhead Alien head mounted on it.  Painted black.  Carded and blister packed to boot with art on both sides of the card, it’s definitely one of the more curious custom made ALIEN figures I’ve seen for a while.

The motivation behind this charcoal finished ‘Ithoromorph’ no doubt lies in a much longer story.  It is likely to be a reaction, of a sort, to Super7’s very own ALIEN ReAction figure released earlier this year featuring a tribute ALIEN cast in the original colours of Kenner’s older 1979 Ithorian Hammerhead figure (See Below).  But this story goes well beyond that.

A sample of the Hammerhead action figure was the basis for the very first prototype  3.75 inch ALIEN made at Kenner almost 40 years ago.   Whew…  This is getting tricky.

Anyway, as this is a custom item listed for sale, it’s likely to be a unique piece as is often the case with these home made curiosities.  It’s a pretty safe bet only one has been made.  I look upon these things as ‘art objects’, pieces of personalised craftsmanship.  Sure, this is a simple head swap, painted black; but it trails a long freight of association carrying it all the way back to 1979 and a ton of meaning to go along with it.  Love it for the oddball factor as much as the intent to parody and make a statement about the history of 3.75 inch ALIEN action figures.
