Bilingual Box Photos Added to 1979 Kenner ALIEN Gallery.

Something I’ve been wanting to do for a while now was to add a set of photos of the little known bilingual variant of the Kenner ALIEN action figure box to the gallery dedicated to the old nefarious action figure.

While much of the box is essentially the same as the US edition, notable differences are scattered about regarding the text badging the packaging.  French and English share the common spaces on these items where only English is used on the US version.

You can inspect more photos of this international variant on the page dedicated to the Kenner ALIEN action figure.

Prototype Gallery Update: 1979 Kenner ALIEN Tail.

Adding content to the Prototype Gallery pages on HIDEOUS PLASTIC is always a joy.  Doubly so when such samples are from the very first 1979 Kenner ALIEN action figure.

This item is a resin hard copy of the figure’s tail.  It’s broken in a few places but nonetheless it is a welcome addition to the Gallery page dedicated to the now 40 year old production samples of this incredible children’s toy.

This image was kindly provided by Derek Ho.  Thank you.

Toyark Posts Gallery of NECA ALIENS Series 13.

Over at Toyark, a gallery of over 70 images have been posted of NECA’s recently released ALIENS Series 13 figures dedicated to Kenner items of the 1990s’.  There’s also a review of each of the 3 items comprising this set, Sgt. Apone, the Scorpion Alien and the Snake Alien.

These figures have been publicly released and now available from your dealer of choice.

From accounts I’ve been hearing from people already receiving theirs in the mail, this series of tribute figures by NECA has been meet with a generally favourable response.  I’d say it is a safe bet that Scorpion Alien is going to be a popular item.  The original kenner figure it’s based on was a big hit in its day, back in 1992.

NECA Releases Images of Retro Themed Neomorph.

In lieu of any Facehugger Friday announcements – largely attributable to the New York Toy Fair – NECA have belatedly provided some images of their upcoming range of 1990s inspired retro themed ‘Alien and Predator Classics’ action figures.  Reminiscent of Kenner toys of the period, these items look to include action features and accessories accompanying the highly stylised imitations.  First Alien to be released is ALIEN: Covenant’s Neomorph.  An odd but welcome choice.

Here’s what NECA have to say about these items to be released at the end of the year “These sturdy 5.5” figures evoke a simpler time when action figures were tossed in the bucket to go to the beach, or left strewn across the stairs for parents to trip over. The debut figures in the line are Berserker Predator, which has a removable mask, and Neomorph Alien, which comes with a baby Neomorph.”

Shipping date is anticipated to be Q3 2019.  No pricing information is available yet. More information can be found this Facebook post and here’s a small gallery of images.

First Peek at Super7 Upcoming ReAction ALIEN Wave 3.

These little buggers just don’t seem to stop coming; and we now have our first peek at Super7’s upcoming wave 3 of their 3.75 inch tall ALIEN ReAction figures.  This next series of SPACE VILLAINS looks to repeat the format of the most recent set and be comprised of 4 different figures, 1 each concealed within blind box packaging.

Once wave 3 is released, this will bring the number of ReAction Alien figures to a total of 21 variants.

Other than the red and blue figure seen here, no other details are provided regarding contents or ratio distribution. Other than the colour of the packaging, we can also determine the release date will be some time in June 2019.  No indication of any price but expect around $10 per blind box.

Once again, I don’t know who is responsible for this image but I would love to provide appropriate credit if someone can provide such information.

Super7 ALIENS Card Backs and Prototypes Spotted at NYTF 2019.

Images have emerged online of prototype samples of Super7’s upcoming ALIENS range of ReAction figures seen at this year’s New York Toy Fair.  It appears this set of 3.75 inch figures will feature 7 characters: Ripley, Newt, Bishop, Vasquez, Hicks and Hudson.  …and a slimy Xenomorph modeled after those seen in the second movie.

It looks like some accessories will accompany the human characters.  Ripley has her gaffer taped combination flamethrower/pulse rifle. Vasquez will tote her smartgun while Hicks is smart enough to bring his helmet and Hudson will enjoy an alternate head sculpt.  While one is clearly visible in the pics, I’m hoping both of those male marines will be equipped with pulse rifles.  It looks like Bishop is ‘torn’ in half, as per his encounter with the Queen Alien late in the movie.  As to whether Newt is the benefactor of any accessories is still unknown.  Of course, Xenomorphs don’t need accessories.

No release date or pricing information is available yet but it’s great to see these items finally going public.  One other inevitable question remains:  What kinds of con exclusives and other ridiculous and difficult to find chase figures will comprise this release?

Here’s some more images:

Normally I prefer to credit anything that appears on the site but no identity of Authorship accompanied these images.  If these are yours, please let me know and they will be credited appropriately.

Toyark Posts Images of Upcoming NECA Parker Figure.

ALIEN’s 40th Anniversary is definitely gaining traction with this this announcement.  Well, for fans of action figures, anyway.  Toyark have posted a gallery of images showing off some of NECA’s upcoming figures spotted at this year’s New York Toy Fair.

Included among the images of Predators, Kenner tribute items and ALIEN Resurrection figures can be found some images of Parker, the ship’s engineer from ALIEN.

This is the first time Parker has been represented in the 7 inch scale by NECA and boy, is he a welcome sight.

No pricing details are available just yet but a tentative released date of “Q3 and Q4” as described on the display card accompanying the figure seen at NYTF 2019 is expected.  For now, just go enjoy Toyark’s gallery of assorted monstrosities.

Super7 Teases ALIENS ReAction figures.

New York Toy Fair 2019 is happening this weekend and Super7 have provided a sneak peek of what they will be showing off at the expo.  It sounds like a ton of stuff is on the cards for them.  Well. Off the cards actually, as this image posted on Facebook and instagram displays a wide range of card backs sans figures.  The exciting News is we finally get to take in our first real look at the card backs themselves for Super7’s long anticipated ALIENS line of ReAction figures..

It’s looking like Hudson, Ripley, Bishop and Vasquez are headlining the United States Colonial Marines and a new Alien Warrior Xenomorph will be along for the ride, too.    This looks very promising and no doubt Hicks, Drake and maybe a couple of other USCM personnel will be available at some point in the future, too.  Right now, though, this set of figures looks like it will be available to view at this weekend’s Toy Fair.  Fantastic!

Oh, and that Masters of the Universe Mantenna figure looks crazy.  I am hoping it has eye popping action like one of its earlier incarnations does.

No doubt we’ll know more about this line up of ALIENS ReAction figures as the weekend progresses.

UPDATED: Bootlegs, Knock Offs and other Illegal Aliens.

Earlier this week I made some general updates on the page dedicated to Kenner bootleg action figures.  I believe it’s fitting the accompanying page dedicated to various other bootleg items also receives some love and attention.

To this goal, this update mostly consists of adding some new photos and various small details to figures already appearing on the page.  I’d like to thank El Rarámuri Urbano for his photos in this update on bootleg aliens. I’m always on the lookout to post more of this crazy stuff so your contribution is very welcome.  Thank you, Sir.

If you missed it, you may also like to check out this week’s earlier update posted on bootleg Kenner action figures. This week I added the very strange 1984 Tsukuda Hobby derived bootleg vinyl model kit, purchased from a dealer in Thailand, possibly manufactured in Turkey.

Amazing stuff!

Super7 Releases ‘Bronze’ 18 Inch ALIENS Kenner Tribute Figure.

Super7 have released a new Super Size action figure paying tribute to the 1979 Kenner ALIEN action figure. This item is completed in a bronze finish and stands 18 inches tall.

Here’s what Super7 have to say about it “The imagined successor to the 1979 Kenner Alien toy. Fully articulated, metallic snapping jaws (operated with a trigger on the back of the head like the original 1979 toy), and retro style packaging. The figure stands 18-inches and can also hang from its tail like the original 1979 Alien figure.”

This new ALIENS figure has been known about since early 2017 and finally the wait is over. Originally promoted at Toyfair in 2017 this figure was initially labelled with the moniker of ‘Marine Ambush’ edition.

This limited ‘Bronze’ edition is now available from the Super7 online store for US$175.

NECA Shares Image of AvP Arcade Figures

The weekly Facehugger Friday reveal has come and gone and with it NECA have been kind enough to share this new image of a pair figures appearing in their upcoming range of AvP arcade game inspired items.

Here we see Lt. Linn Kurosawa facing off against a Razor Claws Alien. Personally, I think she’s poorly attired for the task of slicing up acid bleeding space monsters but the recently dispatched figure in the background may be testimony to something else entirely. This image appeared on Twitter and is NECA’s accompanying comment, “It’s on!!! #facehuggerfriday” It may not be much, but we know they’re on their way.

These are expected to be released sometime soon. More information on these figures can be found Here.
