Weta Announces Micro Epics Queen Alien.

Not to be confused with their already released Mini Epic ALIEN figures, Weta has announced their upcoming range of Micro Epic ALIEN figures, which will be even smaller. First up, is their super small Alien Queen. At less than 3 inches tall, she’s a diminutive piece of royalty. This tiny, stylised figure is made of PVC and features three points of articulation. It’s tiny. At 60mmh x 28mmw x 60mmd it’s barely over 2 inches tall. It is shipped inside a stackable perspex case featuring a rotating turntable. I guess if you want it to be taller you can buy more and just keep stacking them up on each other. Anyway, looks like a fun little piece.

Price point is US$17.99.  Here’s what Weta have to say about this lovely little lady of the hive, “It was a pretty standard shrink-job to start with, but the machine got bumped and they came out really…small. Kinda weird-looking, too. I guess we could pretend we did them on purpose? Make a fancy little box for them, call ‘em ‘Micro Epics’ or something?”

Make sure you read the full product description and watch the fun video announcement. Weta clearly had waaaay too much fun with this one.

Updated – Bootlegs, Knock-Offs and other ‘Illegal Aliens’.

As much as I love the officially released merchandise we see from companies holding proper licences to the ALIEN property, I also adore the blatantly unauthorised and unofficial product as well. Here’s a couple of updates to HIDEOUS PLASTIC’s growing exploration of bootlegs, knock offs and other illegal aliens. This weird junk is truly something else. Here are the links to see more images and information regarding these dubious items. You will need to scroll down passed a slew of other remarkably questionable products and weird junk on their respective pages to find them.  Have fun!

Thank you, Marc Cawiezel, for providing images of these weird and wonderful treasures.  This stuff is not normal – and that’s why we love it!

Super7 Reveals ALIENS ReAction Figure Packaging.

Catching up on some belated New York Toy Fair 2020 News, Super7 had on display packaging for their range of ALIENS ReAction figures at this recent event.

Coming soon are Hicks, Vasquez, Hudson, Ripley, Bishop and Newt. A set of 3 xenomorphs, Nightfall, Dusk and Midnight have already been released and available from Super7’s online store. Other online retail outlets already have Ripley, Newt and the super neat pull apart bishop figure listed for a while now. Which would make the set of three marines due for release sometime after that. Continue reading

NECA Release Likeness Images of Kane and Ash.

It’s Facehugger Friday again and you know what that means, Kiddies?  That’s right! It means NECA shares some goodies with us!  Today we have been blessed with images of likeness sculpts of both Kane and Ash as part of NECA’s 40th Anniversary line of ALIEN action figures.

These two items will comprise part of Wave 3 and while the compression suit wearing Kane has been previously released in NECA’s REEL TOYS line, this is the first time we have seen John Hurt’s actual likeness used by NECA.  Ash (played by Ian Holm) is the first time this character has been released by the company.  NECA has recently displayed these figures at New York Toy Fair.  Unfortunately, I’ve been too busy moving house to post News, so we’ll just have to let that important event pass on by. Such sacrifices we make. I may post some updates later.  Anyway, here’s what NECA have to say about these 2 very welcome additions to the 40th Anniversary ALIEN line up: “We can finally say that every member from the Nostromo has or will have their own action figure.”  Nice. No release date or pricing is yet available.

eBay – Authentic 1979 Kenner ALIEN For Sale.

UPDATE: This listing has ended.

Just quickly while I have a spare 30 minutes I’ll just add this little item to the front page. Here’s a lovely 1979 Kenner ALIEN toy for sale on eBay for US$279.  Most of his parts are there but he’s missing his dome.  As usual.  Nonetheless, it looks to be a neat sample of the toy. The vendor has also made special note in the description  that this item has “1979 molded into the jaw trigger for authenticity”.  Let’s consider this statement below.Kenner stamped all of these figures made in the USA with some basic manufacturer’s information; and visible on the right side of the trigger at the underside of the back of the head are the words “CPG PRODUCTS CORP. 1979”.  It is a sure indication your Kenner ALIEN is a genuine item produced in that country.  However, it’s absence does not necessarily mean a figure is a facsimile, or a bootleg or otherwise unlicenced or unauthorised product – and its presence doesn’t guarantee authenticity, either. NECA Reveals Wave 2 ALIEN 40th Anniversary Set.

Just taking a quick break from packing boxes, moving house and pulling up carpet and I see NECA have released a gallery of images of what we can expect to see in Series 2 of their continuing range of ALIEN 40th Anniversary figures. This wave will feature a set of 3 characters Nostromo’s technician Brett, engineer Parker and bloodied version of the Alien. It looks like a great set of figures – and this is NECA’s first reveal of their blood spattered version of the Alien.Brett and Parker are must have characters, but do I really need another Alien? ….hmmm… maybe not; but it does look like this messy faced little bugger is an alternate version of NECA’s earlier 40th Anniversary figure. Only this time he’s in need of a good face wash and maybe use some dental floss to remove the sticking detritus of Brett and Parker’s brains from between his teeth. Continue reading

eBay – Customised Kenner ALIEN for Sale.

UPDATE: Listing was ended by the seller because the item is no longer available.

Here’s something interesting.  It is a customised Kenner ALIEN toy for sale on eBay. This one has had an interesting treatment. He’s had a few select parts highlighted. His head, teeth and toes have all been painted white while his torso has had red applied to it. It’s an eye catching look and there probably isn’t another figure like it. The vendor wants US$149.44 for this unusual take on the old toy. Custom ALIEN toys appear frequently on eBay. People often apply paint to them and make other modifications like this. Toes and faces are most frequently altered but this one has had paint applied to his chest, as well, lending a very striking appearance.  The glow in the dark paint on the head is covered, so it probably won’t work any more.  It’s teeth have been given a similar treatment, so they have lost their sheen. He’s also missing a few parts, too. Both tongue halves are absent as is the dome on the head and the crest on his back is also gone. Of interest, though, the slot into which that crest belongs is relatively intact.  Sure, it’s showing some signs of stress discoloration but it’s still all there. You could easily fit a replacement crest into place and it would probably sit correctly, without falling out.  It’s an interesting figure and notwithstanding the personal flourishes afforded to it, for $150, it will probably find a new home before too long if someone makes an offer.

Site Updates – Pre-Orders Soon.

I’ve been working hard on this site lately and my book dedicated to the 1979 Kenner ALIEN toy has been in the publisher’s hands for a few weeks now. Soon we publish.

Importantly, pre-orders will become available soon. I am hoping this will happen sometime next week. I wanted to have them ready by now, but a couple of details still need to be finalised. Nothing crippling or debilitating; just minor stuff that has resulted in a delay. It’s no real problem and I learned a long time ago this Project needs to be Goal oriented rather than Deadline driven. To this end, we are almost ready to announce pre-orders. Nonetheless, a few changes around the site have been made during the past month or so.

It’s been tidied up a lot. Much of the front page has had graphical upgrades and there are now 12 random header images for you to click on and play with. Have fun with those. All the side bar graphics have also been updated. Many of the pages linked from the drop down menu have also been significantly improved with updated information. Most importantly, there’s a placeholder image on the top right of the sidebar that will become the button to link to the pre-order page for the book. It only needs to be replaced and linked now as the final graphic for this button is just waiting to be posted. Yeah. We are now that close to going live with pre-orders.

Once the pre-orders do go live, you’ll see the book is being offered at a discount price to pre-order customers. This reduced price pre-order incentive will be live until I have stock in hand, which will take about a month. Then the full price will be instated permanently. I have a good idea what the final pricing will be but I am just waiting on confirmation from the publisher. At this stage we are looking good and steady.

I’ve also had the site’s security updated. It is now fully SSL compliant making it truly https secure for handling transactions via Paypal. This is a good thing and a long time coming. What else is there? A few tidy up tasks and preparations on the back end here and there and really, we’re almost ready. That’s it. We are almost good to go.

Thank you for sticking around and going the distance with me on this amazing Project. I didn’t expect it to take four and a half years to complete. All the same, we are now on the threshold of achieving our goal; and it feels good, too.

eBay – 1979 Kenner ALIEN for Sale.

UPDATE: Sold for US$275 (1 bid).

Here’s a nice pick up for someone wanting a complete 1979 Kenner ALIEN toy – and who doesn’t want one of these beauties, right? OK. So, maybe not everyone does want one but there sure is a lot of them around; what’s more, eBay has this lovely looking sample with bidding starting at US$275. Sounds like a lot but it’s a reasonable price for one of these 40 year old toys now. This is indeed a sweet tasting morsel of blended styrene shaped into one of the world’s most notorious toys. This Kenner ALIEN action figure has everything including the dome, shoulder crest and both tongue parts. Well, the box and accompanying poster aren’t present, but it’s a good solid clean looking critter and would make a great addition to someone’s toy trophy shelf. Someone will snap this up at a decent price. That is, if bidding doesn’t become some crazy tit for tat escalation. Mind you, those sales are fun to watch.

eBay – Incomplete Kenner ALIEN for Sale.

UPDATE: Sold for US$152.50 (6 bids).

There’s not too much missing from this old vintage toy currently available on eBay.  He’s mostly complete. Mostly. All this sample is missing are a pair of tongue parts and that’s it. Being offered for auction, or buy it now for US$300. It’s a reasonable purchase.

The dome is in good shape without any cracks or other deformations and the crest between his shoulders is still affixed, too. Sure, he’s a little dirty, covered in up to four decades worth of dust, grime and mange; but it’s nothing a good scrub with some mild kitchen detergent and a spent shaggy dog toothbrush won’t fix in a jiffy.  He’ll make for a nice pick up for someone bidding on this item. That is,  if the bidding doesn’t escalate dramatically and climb from US$125 to US$300 – or more – for an incomplete 40 year old toy. Yeah. That happens a lot, actually. He may be incomplete, missing a pair of tongue pieces and covered in dust but the presence of the dome and crest along with what looks like a nice, presentable figure concealed beneath that layer of shit will positively influence the sale’s outcome.

eBay – Kenner ALIEN in Box, Australia.

UPDATE: Sold for AU$1,500.

Vintage 1979 Kenner ALIEN toys in Australia are uncommon at best, one is now available on eBay for AU$1,500 (approx. US$1,000) or make an offer, right now. This one includes original box, insert card and poster. While a loose figure can be very hard to find in this country, one in a box can be considered rare. You will see one of these appear on eBay Australia with or without the box around once every 6 months or so.While 4 figure prices for one of these toys is common anywhere in the world, at this price you would want the package and contents to be complete. Sadly, this is not the case with this item. This sample, manufactured in the US, is good in all details but it is missing the head dome on the figure and the front plastic window from the box. Had these items both been present, then the asking price of AU$1,500 would be realistic (I can’t believe I said that. lol. but it’s true).  Unfortunately, this level of incompleteness does knock a substantial amount off the value of the item.

Then again, this is Australia and most things here are stupidly expensive. This figure will probably sell – even at this price – largely due to its highly collectable status, well established nefarious reputation of being the first toy based on an R-rated movie and its relative scarcity in this country. It’s a strong combination that hauls unexpectedly high prices for many vintage items sold here.

NECA Posts More 40th Anniversary Ripley Images.

Here’s NECA’s upcoming 40th Anniversary action figure of Ellen Ripley, complete with all of her accessories. Some nice items in this lot, originally posted on Facebook, is this week’s Facehugger Friday special announcement for all things NECA and ALIEN. Ripley with her new high tech printed face holding her flamethrower is accompanied by an assortment of new accessories. The motion tracker on the left and catbox on the right are new items entirely and have never previously appeared in NECA’s long running line of REEL TOYS ALIEN figures. Jones the cat on the far right will be his third appearance as an accessory in a NECA Ripley pack. The catbox appears to have a hinged front so it can be opened up and Jones can be roughly stuffed inside. Get back in yer box, Jones. You little shithead. Continue reading
