ALIEN Day – Prime 1 Studio Romulus Announcement.

Prime 1 Studio has released a teaser video for unannounced product relating to ALIEN Romulus on facebook. Much like today’s NECA announcement, very little information accompanies the post but it does confirm content is currently under development. Accompanying the video is the ambiguous phrase “Something is coming…”. That’s all the information we currently have right now. Nonetheless, Prime 1 Studio’s reputation for releasing extremely high quality statues and figures means expectations from this manufacturer will be high among fans. Again, no other details regarding price or availability are included in the announcement but this as yet unrevealed content is likely to be released around August 16, when ALIEN Romulus lands in cinemas worldwide.

No other information is currently available but simply knowing NECA will be releasing content based on the upcoming movie is big news for ALIEN action figure fans and collectors. No doubt, these will become available around August 16, when ALIEN Romulus is released in cinemas.

ALIEN Day – ALIENS Fireteam Update.

It looks like there’s been an update released for Cold Iron Studios team based video game, ALIENS: Fireteam Elite. It doesn’t appear to be anything major. Nonetheless, an update has been released today and I’m sure it will be welcomed by players, on all systems this title is released on. Here’s the info from the developer’s facebook page, “A free Alien Day update is coming to Aliens: Fireteam Elite today – we’re raising the currency cap to 100K, and making every challenge card pack in SSGT Park’s shop FREE! Happy Alien Day, fireteams.” I haven’t played the game yet so I don’t really comprehend the significance of this information. Have fun, regardless!

ALIEN Day – KATblog – Canadian Kenner Aliens.

The Kenner Aliens Toy Blog (KATblog) is celebrating ALIEN Day with a post that will be of interest to anyone keen on obscure information regarding Kenner’s ALIENS toys of the 1990s. A new article dedicated to Canadian bilingual Fr/Eng packaged versions of Kenner’s ALIENS toys released in 1992 has been posted on the blog.
These bilingual card variants are fascinating as they provide a window into the distribution of these figures not only across the entirety of North America but also into Europe as well. Thank you Eric Fisher for the posting this article. It’s a curious read for anyone who may be interested in obscure details regarding thirty year old children’s toys based on creatures that want to rip your face off. Yeah. That’s me.

If you were wondering whether there was a bilingual Canadian Fr/Eng version of the older 18 inch tall 1979 Kenner ALIEN action figure released. Yes. There was. You can find it documented right here on HIDEOUS PLASTIC.

ALIEN Day – ALIEN Rogue Incursion VR Game.

Developer Survios and 20th Century games partnered to announce their upcoming ALIEN virtual reality title back in 2022. Their VR game, ALIEN Rogue Incursion, will be coming to the PlayStation VR2, SteamVR, and Quest 3 on “Holiday 2024”. This will be the first officially released ALIEN VR game to be released across multiple systems. Not being a US resident, I’m guessing the “Holiday 2024” release window refers to the end of the year. Here’s what the developer has to say about this upcoming title “This brand-new single-player, action-horror VR game features an original story that fully surrounds players within the terrors of the Alien universe. Designed by Alien fans for Alien fans, Survios brings their expertise to crafting this technically advanced, and frightfully immersive Alien virtual reality game.” I love ALIEN video games and have spent a lot of time playing them during the past quarter century. Yeah. That’s a long time. I don’t have a VR set up but that might change if this title is released to a positive reception.

ALIEN Day – Free League RPG 50% Off.

It’s ALIEN Day and Free League Publishing is celebrating by holding a 50% sale on all of their ALIEN role playing game merchandise. This offer includes everything Free League has published to date, including the Starter set, Core Rule Book along with 6 other expansions and content. At half price it’s a great deal if you’ve been thinking of delving into this well regarded RPG.
I haven’t played these myself, I’m more of a video game junkie than a table top enthusiast. Nonetheless, I have been wanting to play the Ravensburger ALIEN Fate of the Nostromo board game for some time, though. Might have to try that title one day. Still, AvP2 and ALIEN Isolation have been great video games. I’m happy with those.

eBay – Loose Kenner with Arm for Sale.

There’s a nice, average quality Kenner ALIEN toy listed on eBay right now. He’s currently for sale for US$269. Sure, his left arm has been severed but this is nothing new. It’s a strange feature of these old toys; if there’s a limb missing on the figure, it’s the left arm. In this case, however this limb is included in the sale. He just needs some attention to return it to the vacant shoulder socket and he’s good to go.

No real problem here as this is a relatively easy repair to the vintage toy. Beyond this issue he’s almost complete and only missing one other piece. Notably, the weird crest thing on his back is in place and all four mouth parts are also in situ. All that’s missing here is the transparent dome that sits on the head. All things considered, he’s not a bad purchase for US$269. Fit that arm back in place, give him a clean and he’ll become a lovely display piece for some lucky collector.

ALIEN Day – ALIEN Games Discounted.

Sure, it’s still one or two days out from the actual date but ALIEN Day celebrations have started a little early this year. Notably, downloadable PC games outlets Steam and EPIC GAMES are hosting discount sales for ALIEN titles for your PC. Some great items on offer here.
Steam has a trio of titles on offer, with an option to purchase them individually or as a bundle, the following games: AvP (2010), ALIEN Isolation and ALINES: Colonic Marines.

EPIC GAMES offers only a single title, ALIEN Isolation; but this sole Creative Assembly entry in the series is widely regarded as being the best ALIEN game ever released.

KATblog – The Kenner Vasquez Trio.

A wonderfully detailed article has been published at the Kenner ALIENS Toy blog. This new written piece delves into the exploration of a set of three ALIENS marine figures, Vasquez, O’Malley and Hudson, all released in 1993. It’s a lengthy read and covers this trio of old toys that were scarce in their day and certainly no less difficult to find now. Go and explore the fascinating background to Vasquez, O’Malley and Hudson. You’ll find details on their descriptions, identified international variants along with a welcome debunking of popular myths that surround these vintage toys. Read it all in this article detailing these curious toys over at the Kenner ALIENS Toy blog. There’s some fact along with some speculation but after reading this article, just one question remains… Who is this O’Malley person, anyway?

ALIEN Day Next Week.

ALIEN Day is now less than a week away. I love ALIEN Day. The event is a global celebration of all things related to 20th Century Studio’s property, ALIEN. It is an official 20th Century Studios and fan oriented celebration around the world. We will see some announcements for sure, be they official or simply just the fans expressing their joy at humanity reaching the stars and our fragile interstellar civilisation being in danger of destruction by a deadly torso breeding parasitoid organism; along with Humanity’s response to combat the potential devastation it may unleash upon us. ALIEN Day has been celebrated ever since it was inspired by fan Alaric Hahn who proposed the date 4/26 (April 26) back in 2015. The date is inspired by the planet appearing in the ALIEN series, designated as “LV-426”. In following years, Fox adopted it as the date to be an opportunity to promote various official and licenced announcements. Typical announcements in the past included comics, books, action figures and a plethora of other merchandise items on (or around) this date. Recent years have seen declining involvement and support from Fox/20CS but fans around the world have increasingly adopted the day as one of celebration.

Nonetheless the date remains a potentially perfect opportunity for some official promotional content. Notably, for the upcoming movie, ALIEN Romulus. ALIEN Romulus will be released on August 16 (August 15 in Australia, where I live). The chance of new content relating to ALIEN Romulus being made public is good. Last year’s ALIEN Day saw director Fede Alvarez release a promotional image of the movie. This year, it’s reasonable to expect more information given the release of the movie in less than four months. Hey, if no such announcements are made, fans will go about their own celebrations. There’s always a cinema showing the original Ridley Scott ALIEN movie on this date, somewhere at least. Let’s go watch that!

eBay – Kenner ALIEN for Sale in Australia.

It’s been a few months since we’ve seen a 1979 Kenner ALIEN toy be listed on eBay in Australia. I am always on the lookout to see them become available in this country with this sample being listed today. Sadly, he falls a little short in some details but we don’t see many of these old toys listed in this country. It’s just a disappointing fact this sample is bereft of several critical parts. It’s still a Kenner ALIEN despite its state. Nonetheless this one is listed in ‘as is’ condition with the auction starting at AU$295. You do get a very incomplete item for your money but considering the scarcity of these items in this country, demand for it will be high and bidding will result in a good sale. This figure does look clean but a significant number of parts are missing. A dome is included in the sale but it’s a reproduction part, a post market fabrication by a third party. Along with the absence of the original dome the following items are also missing: both arms, the dorsal crest between the shoulders and all four quad appendages immediately below that crest. A set of seven obvious holes penetrating the upper torso are testimony to these pieces having gone astray, leaving the figure in a dramatically incomplete condition. To offset these blatant deficiencies, both halves of the tongue are present and the mouth activation trigger appears to work as intended. This appears to be a standard US version of the toy and not one of the rarer Canadian samples. Both versions of Kenner’s ALIEN toy were distributed in Australia. A great item if its condition is of no problem to you if you live in Australia want to add one to your collection without having to pay (at least) another AU$100 for postage from the US.

ALIEN Romulus – Popcorn Bucket Leak?

This image has been leaked online via The Garfield Movie News on X (formerly twitter). It claims to represent the popcorn bucket that will be available when ALIEN Romulus is released. News of such an item was leaked a few days ago and now we may have our very first glimpse of what this item may actually be.
Bucket leak or just a leaky bucket? We don’t know. Nothing public has been announced or released regarding this item nor any verification this leak is legitimate. Leaks of this nature can fall either side of the truth. Nonetheless, there’s some interesting features to be queried here. The head design appears to be inspired by the Protomorphs appearing in ALIEN Covenant. Maybe, the creatures in ALIEN Romulus share some design elements with that iteration of the Alien? We’ll have to wait and see.

I’m not even sure how this Alien head is supposed to function as a popcorn bucket. It does look like it straps onto the hand as earlier reports have claimed. As to its purpose as a bucket? Does the dome lift off the top of the head to reveal the popcorn inside? I hope to see more of this item as time passes. It’s a weird one. We like weird. Just not taking this item too seriously right now. After all, what’s there to get excited about a popcorn bucket?

UPDATED – Gorilla Alien Prototype.

I haven’t added anything to the section dedicated to Kenner ALIENS prototypes for some time. Simply haven’t had anything to add. Today, I have managed to return to this section and post a set of 6 Gorilla Alien (1992) test shot images to the page dedicated to product development samples of this action figure. This is a wonderful item and my very grateful thanks for permission to use these images of this sample go to Barry@ToyCurious.com. If you’re looking to purchase prototypes of various toys from a wide range of well known licences and manufacturers, visit Barry’s online store, Toy Curious.

ALIEN Romulus – Popcorn Bucket.

We’ve probably seen the very first hint of merchandise we can expect for ALIEN Romulus. Over on X (formerly twitter), this post was made by Exhibitor Relations Co on April 10, indicating our first glimpse into what we can expect to become available when the movie is released.

While nothing definitive is revealed here, it does hint at how much of a hit movie ALIEN Romulus is expected to be. Such marketing and sales tie-ins usually accompany a movie release expected to be favorably received by the public. Favorably enough for audience members to purchase a popcorn bucket before people enter the cinema to see the movie. DUNE Part 2 was a phenomenal success with the popcorn bucket made to look like an open Arrakis sandworm maw, made controversial due to its suggestive nature. What exactly can we anticipate from an ALIEN themed “popcorn container” that “attaches to your forearm”? Your guess is as good as mine.

We’ll have to wait and see; but one thing is for certain, we are only just beginning to see the crank handle start to turn on the ALIEN Romulus merchandise machine. In less than two weeks, ALIEN Day April 26 will be upon us and I expect any number of ALIEN Romulus announcements to be made. I’ll be around to cover any such merchandise right on this blog. Check in on ALIEN Day to see what’s covered here at HIDEOUS PLASTIC.

ALIEN Romulus is being released on August 16, 2024. Just a few months from now.

eBay – Incomplete Kenner ALIEN for Sale.

This incomplete 1979 Kenner ALIEN toy is listed on eBay. Auction starts at US$199. Or if you want to purchase it now, the seller will accept US$300, on the spot. Not a bad price for a forty year old toy, missing parts. Anything particularly outstanding about this item? Not really. It’s in an average condition and missing a few parts. That’s not unusual, either. Let’s take a closer look. One important feature part still extant on this vintage toy is the presence of the dorsal crest mounted between the shoulders. The fact this toy possesses this much sought after piece in place gives him value. While this is a good thing for this frequently missing part in situ, the dome and both tongue parts are absent. As is the left arm. Oddly enough, if an arm goes missing, it’s usually the left limb. Why so many of these vintage Kenner ALIEN figures lack the left arm rather than the right is a peculiar oddity I don’t understand. Nonetheless, loose limbs do become available for figure in this condition and when they do, the left arm commonly sells before any right arm also offered for sale. There’s been a few sales recently of loose items and this has been consistently the case. The left arm sells first. This imperfect figure is an ideal restoration piece. It is also equally perfect for tearing down and salvaging parts to be used in another build that may itself be missing a right arm and dorsal crest. Then sell the carcass – or remaining parts individually – on eBay. You might even get your money back.
