eBay – Kenner ALIEN Box for Sale.

Sure, it’s a little battered and worn, missing the front window pane but if you want just the box for your Kenner ALIEN toy, this one is now listed on Ebay. Bidding started at just US$1.00, which is really a fair price. After all, it is an empty box. No could possibly want to spend too much on a beat up old box, right?

Bidding now sits at a comfortable $127.50 with three days to go. Bidding started at just US$1.00 for this mutilated package item. There are significant tears and other deformations throughout the box but it does include the red insert card. No figure or poster is included. It’s just the empty box being offered for sale. Nonetheless, these four decades old vintage boxes are in high demand. How much will this item eventually sell for? It could easily sell for well in excess of US$200. It will be interesting to watch and see how much this item escalates during bidding and is notable to gauge for determining what the value of one of these boxes actually is. Even if it is empty and in the decrepit and substantially less than desirable condition this sample certainly is.

eBay – Average Kenner ALIEN for Sale.

If you’re looking for a Kenner ALIEN toy right now and not too interested in a couple features missing but still want it to be reasonably presentable, this sample being auctioned on eBay right now might just fit the bill. Bidding started today at the fair base value of just US$1.00. Figures in this condition are relatively common and are listed frequently on eBay.It’s an average condition toy. No box. No dome. Missing its dorsal crest. Other than that, it looks very good. Nonetheless, the starting price of US$200 will attract solid attention from bidders. This sale of an average condition figure will serve as a measuring guide of what one of these vintage toys is worth now. How much will it eventually sell for? It could certainly sell for in excess of US$250. This is well within reason as dictated by those who are prepared to spend money on an average quality, ugly, forty year old toy that no one particularly thought was a good idea back in 1979 – but therein lies the value behind these old toys.

ALIEN Day – Basura XENOMOFOS are Coming.

It’s time for full disclosure, an explanation and possibly an apology. On April 1st, a few weeks ago on HIDEOUS PLASTIC, I commenced showing off images of a suspect and dubious looking action figure teased to be released by Basura Collectibles. A few days ago, I released another image including more details of the figure’s features, annotated in Spanish. Today, I make the full announcement with additional information. XENOMOFOS are real, they are coming and I can now reveal the exclusive truth behind this oddity. I am the person responsible for it. XENOMOFOS are an art project parody item I am currently working on.

This project is heavily inspired by Mexican bootleg toys. Right now I am approaching the end of the early development stage. Nonetheless, the three headed XENOMOFO Radiation Exposure Edition action figure is ready to “expose himself” to the public; and yes. It will glow in the dark. This 5 inch tall figure will possess an astonishing 5 points of articulation! Incredible! Unbelievable! Questionable!

At this point in development, I am considering launching a Kickstarter campaign for anybody who wants one of these substantially less than official and overtly outlandish action figures. Production numbers are yet to be determined and are likely to be dictated by the success of the campaign. More details will be forthcoming as I progress on this project.

Finally, I must apologise to some of you for the April 1st tease covertly made a few weeks back. From my stand point, though, I had to throw the promotion for this item out there on that particular day as a teaser. It was simply an opportunity too good to miss or pass up. In this regard, I am sorry I messed with your heads. Actually, no. Now that I think of it,  I’m not sorry. It was perfect.

XENOMOFOS are coming! No release date or price is available just yet. But they’re coming!

eBay – ALIEN Mounted on Card for Sale.

There’s an oft used saying that we all know, “The devil is in the details”. It’s a great saying and applying it to collectibles is very appropriate. Take this Kenner ALIEN toy mounted on the red insert card currently being offered for sale on an eBay auction. Looks like a great item. You’ll need to be more attentive here. I can tell you why. The hierarchy of desirability with these old toys is simple. Samples in unopened pristine condition are rare and highly valuable; while opened samples with the toy still attached to the red insert card are pretty close to being next. This sample is being sole by the vendor and touted with this claim. It’s for sale with the understanding, ” it was never removed from the carboard (sic)” as noted by the seller. The problem here is simple. This item actually has been removed from the card. Continue reading

eBay – “Feature Complete” ALIEN for Sale.

This forty year old vintage Kenner ALIEN toy is for sale and is “feature complete”. It’s all there. The characteristic dome and dorsal crest often missing from these old toys are both present. Keep in mind, however, this item has been populated with reproduction parts in order to bring it up to a display worthy status. Neither the dome or the crest are original parts. It is currently on offer by the seller for US$324.99.It’s been said many times before and the use of reproduction parts are very much divided in collector’s opinions and arguments from both sides are valid. On one hand, for many people, there is no other option than to use reproduction items. About 90% of all Kenner ALIEN toys today lack the dome; and around 70% are missing the crest. It makes sense to owners of the toy who want it to appear “feature complete” to use such parts when genuine parts are so rare. They are in high demand and priced much, much higher when you do find them. There’s a small industry surrounding the creation of facsimile items. Continue reading

Basura – Three Headed Space Monster. Thingie.

I have more details regarding the dubious three headed curiosity that was announced on April 1st by Basura Collectibles. It would appear this item is more than just an April Fool’s Day gag and I am guessing there is a likelihood it will actually become available at some point in the future. This new image provided by Basura outlines the key features (Hah!) of this questionable figure. I don’t read Spanish, so make of this image what you can.Nonetheless, as someone who is keen on weird and wonderful bootleg action figures and toys, I intend for this lurid item to become a welcome addition to my ever growing collection of low caliber junk of questionable quality.

I have documented many such unauthorised and unlicenced items similar to this anomaly during the past few years here on HIDEOUS PLASTIC. Interested? Sure you are! Here, for your investigation and discrete observation are four pages of crazed nonsense, dedicated to featuring a variety of Bootlegs, Knock Offs and Other ‘Illegal Aliens’.

Enjoy!

ALIEN Day is Almost Upon Us.

ALIEN Day is coming. April 26 is recognised in the fan community, along with a variety of  licence holders and related commercial institutions, as the day we celebrate all things, well, ALIEN related. It’s usually a low key, online dedication of fan’s own work along with some commercial reveals, officially approved by Twentieth Century Studios (Formerly Fox) along with all manner of other good fun things. I thought I would take this opportunity to make my own observations and expectations for the day be known and here is as good a place as any.I for one, get very excited about the potential for what the day offers and often come away with mixed feelings once it’s over. Some expectations are met while others are not. I am always enthusiastic about new licenced and unlicenced goodies that may be announced, or released but ALIEN Day often ends bereft of any official word from 20thCS regarding any new movie. I personally believe it to be an ideal opportunity for the company to release some form of update or News item or some details or other information regarding the state of play of any future movie. To date, they’ve taken little opportunity to do so and this year may not be any different. Continue reading

eBay – Kenner ALIEN Parts for Sale.

Several loose body parts from a tear down of an original 1979 Kenner ALIEN toy are now available on eBay. These are being sold in three separate lots. (1) A right arm. (2) A lot featuring a variety of various body parts and (3) A pair of torso halves. It will be handy to purchase these loose items if you’re after them to complete a figure of your own; but very few parts on offer are actually in desirable condition. All three lots are being auctioned. The right arm being offered appears to be in good shape. The neoprene anchor is still attached and unbroken. No fingers are missing and the elbow spur is present. That’s a great start and this piece will definitely be purchased by someone who is missing this part. Kenner ALIEN toys missing either arm are commonplace and this piece will no doubt have great appeal to a new owner who will give it a new home, right where it belongs. Continue reading

Good Smile Company Nendoroid ALIEN Pre-Order.

The Good Smile Company has announced pre-orders are now open for their highly stylised and articulated, 11cm (about 4.5 inches) tall Nendoroid ALIEN figure. I have to say, I have no idea what a “Nendoroid” is. I assume it’s a product line native to the Good Smile Company. All the same, that head is tremendously detailed feature, coyly offset by the much less proportionate and stumpy torso and limbs. Neat. Here’s what the supplier has to say about this little… er… face ripping cutie pie. “From the sci-fi horror movie “Alien” comes a Nendoroid of the Alien! While the Alien has been brought down to cute Nendoroid size, its terrifying looks have been perfectly preserved with incredibly detailed modeling. The figure is fully articulated, allowing you to display it in a variety of different poses. Optional parts include a Facehugger, a Chestburster and an alien egg effect sheet! Enjoy mixing and matching optional parts to create all kinds of situations in Nendoroid form!” Sounds good to me despite the fact I still have no idea of what a “Nendoroid” is. I’ll take their word it’s important. Somehow. Release date is November, 2022. Price is around US$95. Looks like a great fun item.

eBay – Kenner ALIEN Poster for Sale.

I’ve seen a few of these vintage Kenner ALIEN toy posters being listed on eBay recently. Here’s another one. This one is being auctioned by the seller. Bidding started at US$20. Currently, one bidder has already expressed a desire to own this forty year old B&W printed inclusion for a toy that nobody wanted at the time. It’s a little dog eared and slightly creased but this poster is still in very good condition considering its age. Nonetheless, such a low starting price is important. Bidders will escalate the selling price well above it’s current value. This is inevitable. During the past month or so, there’s been around four of these listed on eBay. Each one has been listed for around US$200 and then sold for around that much. How much will this item sell is anyone’s guess; but right now, it’s a safe bet it will easily top the triple figure mark. Importantly, this item will demonstrate the true value of these forty year old posters as bidders determine what it’s worth – not the seller under these auction conditions. This will be a fun item to watch.

NECA Announces Fireteam Figures.

NECA have released a pair of images of figures based on the popular ALIENS Fireteam video game. Featured in the release are the Runner and Prowler Aliens and it appears this pair will become available sometime in June 2022.Here’s more of what the well regarded company has to say “NECA is pleased to present a line of detailed action figures depicting the aliens seen in the game. The first series includes Runner Alien and Prowler Alien, which stand almost 9 inches tall and have nearly 30 points of articulation. Both figures feature game-accurate sculpts and bendable tails. Window box packaging.”

Some people have been quick to observe today is April 1st, the day of gags; and this announcement may indeed be another jape. However, these are licenced items and  20th Century Studios copyright badging exists on both images. So, unlike other items announced today which may be spurious in nature, these are likely to be legitimate in every way.

Basura Teases GITD Three Headed Alien.

Basura Collectibles has released a teaser image of what appears to be a three headed space monster action figure. Toy. Thingy. …ummmmm. Whatever this lurid, crested oddity actually is…

No additional information, price or release date is available from the maker. Nonetheless, close inspection – and one detail in particular of the shortened tail(!) – suggests this item appears to be inspired by bootleg product hailing from Mexico. Furthermore, the image provided suggests it possesses the ability to glow in the dark. So what exactly do we have here? It appears to be a three headed, glow in the dark Mexican bootleg space monster made by an obscure manufacturer no one has ever heard from before. An enticing prospect, I say.

Along with other such weird things and stuff that glows in the dark, I am a fan of bootleg Mexican product. They are made in equal parts unlicenced and unapologetic, both in quality and possessing a healthy disregard for authenticity. I for one am eagerly awaiting more information regarding this most suspect and dubious looking item. We shall see what happens next. Especially considering it must be that time of year, huh.
