HIDEOUS PLASTIC Preview Edition Feedback.

I’m just going take this opportunity to provide visitors to this site with a reminder the Preview Edition of HIDEOUS PLASTIC – In stores everyone can hear you scream is now available for download.  This 30 page excerpt includes the entire first chapter of the book.

This isn’t just a promotional exercise – although that’s a valid activity in its own right – more importantly, I am seeking to make this book as accurate as possible. This chapter deals with the early history of the toy when it was released in 1979 and verifying its content as accurate has not been an easy task.  Right now, it’s looking very solid but I still need to ensure details are correct.  Any assistance is welcome.  Contact details are in the document.

Anybody wanting to provide feedback in the way of corrections has about 2 weeks to do so. August 31, 2018 is the closing date for such input.  After which, all content will be locked and it’s off to the editor and typesetting.  Much of the work is now done.  Right now, I’m just waiting on some correspondence and permissions from people to use third party material in the book.  So, while I wait for these responses, I am going to go pack boxes and move house.

Meanwhile, here’s a few work in progress photos.  As you can see, it’s taking shape very well.  Keep in mind these images are of an unedited version of the manuscript that lacks final design layout.  At over 200 pages, this book will be a comprehensive resource that covers many, many aspects of the old Kenner ALIEN action figure.

It’s Time for me to Move on…

Let’s face it.  No matter who you are, no matter what you do, there comes a day when you just have to move on.

After over 20 years of being comfortable in this house it’s time for me to pack up all my toys – no matter how ugly they are – and move on.  It’s been great living here in rural Victoria, Australia, but the larger than average property is just becoming too much for me to maintain.  So, it’s back into the suburbs, where I will enjoy the luxury of being able to walk to the closest cinema. 9 Inch Kotobukiya ArtFX Alien Comparison.

Just thought I’d toss this up on the front page.  The 9 inch tall Kotobukiya figure is arguably one of the best figures available and certainly the best of its type in the 7-9 inch range of figures.  It’s a startling piece of work featuring some tremendous detail including all the familiar body parts right down to the subtle creasing of the suit as worn by the actor and stuntmen involved in the production of the 1979 movie.
It’s actually difficult to appreciate the amount of detail on this item, even when a ruler is placed next to it.  It’s a piece that borders on phenomenal for what’s on offer in this small statuette.  For a proper appreciation of the detail on this almost unbelievable piece, it’s best comparing it directly to other ALIEN action figures.

Tooth Fairy Studios Pokemon/ALIEN Crossover.

UPDATED 6/8/18.

It looks like images of one of those weird and unexpected crossover products people enjoy so much has been posted online. Posing the question, “What would arise from a face hugged Pikachu if an Alien parasite emerged from his chest?”, Tooth Fairy Studio offers the answer in the form of  this curious amalgam of ALIEN and Pokemon in their Freak Pika figurine:

Images of the Freak Pika  (Freakachu..?  Pokemorph..?) are from the recent Wonderfest 2018 (Japan) and Ani-Com & Games HK 2018 (Hongkong) events.  These 4.5 inch tall figures are cast in resin with yellow/green regular editions priced around US$75.  Also available is a number of different coloured variants. These are unlicenced crossover garage items and are extremely limited in quantity to only 100 Regular and 10 Special editions (of each alternate colour).  They are available directly from the Artist, who resides in China.  The purchase page and details are completely in Chinese and limitations on international postage may be present.

The photographer for these items is unidentified (so proper credit in this regard is lacking – something I wish to rectify if possible); but I would like to thank Desmond Mo for calling these curious items to our attention and pursuing further details.   More pictures after the break. NECA ALIEN Wall Trophy.

NECA have posted images on Facebook of their upcoming wall mounted ALIEN trophy head.

No additional information about the availability of this item just yet but it looks to be 1:1 scale wall hanging of the Big Chap’s head.  An anticipated price tag of around US$300 is expected.  I am guessing this item will be available sometime next year as part of the 40th Anniversary of the release of ALIEN.

Antlers not included.

Quantum Mechanix ‘FREE HUGS’ Q-Fig Facehugger

We’ve all seen the novelty T-shirts featuring a not so adorable facehugger holding up a sign, offering ‘FREE HUGS’.  Quantum Mechanix have taken that great visual gag and crafted a terrific little figurine that “wants to give you free hugs. What could go wrong?”

The ‘FREE HUGS’ Alien Facehugger Q-Fig is 3.5 inches tall, excluding the ALIEN themed base and is made of PVC.  It’s expected to cost around $19.95 and “will be available soon.”  More information can be found on the manufacturer’s product page.

A pre-order for the item can be placed at Big Bad Toy Store; and they estimate stock to arrive around September, 2018.  Next month.
