Kenner Censored their ALIEN Logo.

It’s true. That famous ALIEN logo we all know? It was modified.

An article I wrote a couple years back and have always been wanting to return to and expand that examines Kenner’s wonderful and iconic ALIEN logo has been updated. So here it is, with more information and images, a written piece that explores exactly what lies beneath the curiously censored logo appearing on all of Kenner’s 1979 ALIEN products.Have fun with this. The ALIEN board game is also investigated broadly in the article as it is a key product in exploring the hidden secret of what lies beneath the modified version Kenner’s ALIEN logo.

Ebay – Complete 1979 ALIEN for Sale.

UPDATE: This item sold for US$281.56 (9 bidders).

The constant stream of 1979 Kenner ALIEN toys continues with the listing of this slightly broken sample on eBay. This one is being auctioned with bids starting at US$100. He’s complete with all parts present, just needing his left arm re-attached. Bidding has already commenced.Yeah, he’s in a “not too bad” state even if his arm is severed as that issue is an easy fix. All of his other parts are present including the dome, shoulder crest and all mouth parts. He appears to be relatively clean, too. It will be interesting to see how high this item climbs as the clock ticks down. It’s a safe bet this fellow will eventually sell in access of US$200. Anything less than that will be remarkable. Anything above US$200 can be expected. Hilarious.

Video Review – Eaglemoss and NECA.

Unboxing videos? Yeah. I love unboxing videos. I love unboxing videos made by Baptiste Coudert. So here’s a sweet little video featuring his disembodied French voice and hairy arms praising the merits of NECA’s recently released 7 inch tall 40th Anniversary figures. All 7 of them released to date (Ultimate Alien, Ripley, Kane, Translucent Alien, Brett, Parker and …yet another Alien, this one bloodied). Check it out. It’s great fun as always.

But wait, there’s more! Continue reading

eBay – Vintage Kenner ALIEN Photo for Sale.

UPDATE: This item sold for US$42.00 (2 bidders.)

Here’s something you don’t see very often. A vintage photo of a pair of guys playing with their Kenner ALIEN toys taken sometime in 1980 listed for sale on eBay. Bidding starts at US$9.99. This is a great, personal relic for sale and while it is a little whethered and torn along its left edge, that imperfection doesn’t prevent it from being a unique item and wonderful addition to any ALIEN collection. What’s this item actually worth? Let’s follow the auction and find out. I do like to post sales results to Kenner ALIEN listings such as this as UPDATES on News post where it originally occurred. This auction listing is for 10 days.

Party hats and Aliens. What a combo! I’m not sure if the Aliens are shaking hands or arm wrestling in front their anonymous owners. Both, is a valid speculation, I guess. I do know one thing for sure. Photos of this nature are rare and I’ve seen about a dozen images of a similar vintage. Such images usually feature children at Christmas 1979, opening up their brand new Kenner Alien toys. I have also seen a great photo taken sometime in the 1980s of a young Adam Savage (of Mythbusters fame), proudly using the severed Kenner ALIEN head to mimic the movie’s chestburster scene, serving it up as part of a thanksgiving dinner with the head mounted square and center in the turkey itself. Great stuff! So, these things are around and I do love seeing them.

eBay – Slightly Imperfect Kenner ALIEN for Sale.

Here’s a great sample of the 1979 Kenner ALIEN toy for sale on eBay. The head dome, the spike on his back and all mouth parts are present and all of his moving parts and features work perfectly fine. It’s unfortunate then, he has some damage to his head dome. It’s been melted slightly on one side, scarring it irreparably. The seller expecting to sell this item for US$470 (offers accepted) which includes the heat damage imperfection. BONUS!Aside from the heat damage on the lower, middle edge of the right side of the dome, it’s a nice piece. US$470 is a lot to ask for, though; and it’s a good thing the rest of the figure is complete and in fine shape. He also manages to hold a pose with his arms, which is quite a feat in itself considering the neoprene anchors used to attach the limbs to an internal post are as old as the toy itself. NECA Rhino Alien V2.0 Coming January, 2021.

NECA have released a fantastic gallery of their upcoming variant Rhino Alien action figure. This colorway on this figure features a much more mechanical blue and steel grey scheme than the previous release version of this piece. This is a much more biomechanical finish to the creature and the ambience does appear to suit it much better than the original tangerine of some time back. Here’s what NECA have to say about this upcoming item, “Prepare to be bowled over by the newest addition to NECA’s Kenner Tribute line! The Rhino Alien is back and better than ever with brand new paint deco based on the variant release. Our team took inspiration from Kenner’s classic design and transformed it into an all-new modern behemoth featuring all of today’s detail and articulation. Rhino Alien measures approximately 10” and has a massive ramming horn for attacking its unlucky prey. Comes in all-new deluxe window box packaging.” Sounds very promising. This item is scheduled for release in January, 2021.

eBay – Kenner ALIEN in Box with 2 Posters.

UPDATE: This listing has ended; presumed Sold.

Here’s something a little unusual.  A 1979 Kenner ALIEN toy complete in box. The figure is nice. The box is a bit beat up. The red insert card looks OK. So far, it’s all very normal and relatively common. It’s the presence of two posters that is of genuine curiosity, here. All this can be yours for US$1,750 on eBay. Including both posters! It’s a lot of money to spend on an old toy just to have a duplicate of the poster, though. Yet, that second poster can easily be sold on eBay for anywhere between US$50 and US$120 dollars. The figure itself is a good quality sample, complete with all components in place and has the added attraction of being able to hold a pose, which itself is uncommon. …but is it worth US$1,750, even with a duplicate item thrown in for added value? Probably not. Mind you, the vendor is willing to take offers on this item. So it will sell. That’s a certainty, despite the fact this item is neither rare nor in mint condition. Continue reading

eBay – Complete Kenner ALIEN for Sale.

UPDATE: Sold for US$405 (4 bidders).

Looking to spend a minimum of US$300 on a forty year old toy that sold poorly last century? You are in luck! On eBay right now, you can bid to your heart’s content on this fabulous looking Kenner ALIEN toy. He’s all there. Complete and looking fantastic and while a starting bid of US$300 is present, the vendor is also offering a “Buy Now” price of US$450. All ballpark figures by current standards for one of these toys in this condition. He’s nigh on perfect, too, with only minor paint applied to the bulging details on the sides of his head to serve as a distraction from a near immaculate presentation. These look like an old customisation as there is some signs of chipping on the added finish. This is a good thing as the old paint may even be removed with minimum effort by just prying carefully at it with a pointed tool. Some paint won’t come off, of course; but this application looks like it might come away with ease. If you do want to remove previous custom paintwork from these old toys, remember(!) it’s important to use a non-acetone remover as common acetone based paint removers are harmful to the toy and will dissolve the styrene it’s made of. So be very careful if you choose to remove paint. Continue reading

eBay – Broken, Incomplete Kenner ALIEN for Sale.

UPDATE: Sold for US$200.

Looking for a poor quality forty year old toy to throw US$200 at?  Well, good fortune is smiling upon you! One matching that description is available on eBay right now for US$199.99. Aren’t you lucky?Let’s get this out of the way first. For US$200, you can easily purchase a better sample of the toy than what is being offered here. For what you get, this poor ALIEN toy is horrendously over-priced. It’s easier if we start with the usual suspects. All the pieces commonly missing are absent from this figure; and then some. Gone are the head dome, both parts of the tongue and the crest between the shoulders. Also missing is the tail. The arms are included in the listing, but you’ll need to re-attach those. Everything else is there – but even some of those remaining features on the toy have problems. Let’s take a closer look, shall we? Continue reading

eBay – Kenner ALIEN Dome for Sale.

UPDATE: Sold for US$150. Apparently.

Here’s a nice piece of translucent curved plastic that might be of interest to some people. It’s a genuine loose head covering for a 1979 Kenner ALIEN toy for sale on eBay. It’s being sold for US$150. It’s been a couple months since one of these appeared on eBay. They’re uncommon at best but not to the point of justifiably being called rare. The description on this item is a little scant, “…Great Condition Authentic. Condition is Used. Minor scratches.” but that’s essentially all you need to know what you’re buying. It’s in very good condition and just lacking in a little quality detailing to make it perfect. Pricey at US$150? Sure it is. Then again, these smoky hued things will frequently exceed the US$100 mark when being bid for on eBay at auction. While this “Buy Now” figure sits at the upper price limit the seller is taking offers. Regardless, it’s a safe bet this single, much sought after body part will still sell for no less than US$100. Not bad for loose piece of plastic from a forty year old toy nobody asked for in 1979.

HIDEOUS PLASTIC – Book Now Available.

After five years of work, my first book, HIDEOUS PLASTIC – In stores everyone can hear you scream is now available for purchase. At this point in time, it is currently listed on eBay. I am organising other services but eBay has proven to reach more people who are interested in Kenner ALIEN toys than any other service so it’s an obvious first choice to launch this publication to the public.

This book is three hundred pages of information dedicated to the 1979 vintage Kenner ALIEN toy. Should you be curious, more information regarding the book is available on its About Page. Also of interest is a FREE thirty page excerpt you can download and see if it is of further interest to you.

Along with this announcement of the book’s availability, I would like to thank the many people who have supported this project in various ways. Firstly, Sylvie Blair at BookPOD, the publisher who had faith in this strange project and brought to bear critical resources needed to see it be completed.

A substantial number of people contributed to the book directly, expanding its content to an astonishing capacity. There are photos and other material present in this book appearing in public for the first time. You have all been duly credited for your greatly appreciated contributions.Gosh, there’s some astonishing stuff in there now and it wouldn’t have been possible without such willingness to share.

I’m also taking this opportunity to thank my mother, Shirley Wlodarzyk, for too many things, actually – but appropriately in the light of this book – it was her who gave me one of these toys for Christmas forty years ago. Who knew it would come to this? Thanks Ma! And thanks for all the support, too. 🙂

Finally, I would like to thank the people who have already purchased this book. Thank you so much for having faith in me and making purchases during the bumpy pre-order period earlier this year. That was a difficult process fraught with technical issues and yet not a single person complained or demonstrated any misgivings regarding their early purchase. Instead, I am in admiration of your patience. Thank you so much. Your copies are already on their way to you.

Well, enough babble. The book is now available. Go grab a copy on eBay.

I’ll be very interested in any feedback you may have.

Hachette Part Builder ALIEN Kit Video.

French publisher Hachette have released a video of their serial part-building publication where subscribers can construct their own 1.2m tall ALIEN in weekly/monthly installments.

The entire video is in French, as is all other content being presented therein. Nonetheless, this video appears to describe the content of the first issue, which appears to comprise of a number of print material items along with the first parts of the head. The video goes into some detail for each of the publication’s items and a quick rundown on how the “face” of the Alien is assembled. Continue reading
