Robot Kingdom Posts NECA 40th Anniversary Images.

Robot Kingdom have posted a set of 8 images on Facebook of what appears to be the first set of three items in NECA’s upcoming range of 40th Anniversary ALIEN 7 inch figures. This first round (of 3, totaling 9 figures) includes the translucent concept Alien suit, Ripley and Dallas in compression suit.

Each of these figures have previously been released by NECA but these offer fresh attention to detail, not least of which will be the faces printed onto the characters rather than painted on. This updated detail alone should be phenomenal. Other than that, we’ve seen ’em all before. Here’s some more info from Robot Kingdom’s online store, “Neca Alien – 7” Scale Action Figure – 40th Anniversary Assortment 1 set of 3 (Ripley (Jumpsuit), Dallas (Compression Suit), Big Chap (Concept)).Photos for reference only, exact product appearance is subject to manufacturer final confirmation. Preorder. Available in April 2020.”  It appears like a potential ALIEN Day release to me and the price looks set to be US$69.90 for this set of 3 figures.

I must say, that motion tracker looks neat.  Actually, they all do, but other than the tracker and the new Jones cat box accessory these characters are all repeats! When do we see Brett and Parker get released?  Those 2 characters are definitely anxiously anticipated by fans.

eBay – Kenner ALIEN Arm for Sale.

UPDATE – This listing was ended by the seller because there was an error in the listing.

There’s been a noticeable increase of 40 year old parts salvaged from old ALIEN toys available on eBay lately. Here’s another one. The seller wants US$49.99 (or make an offer) for this severed right arm. It’s pricey and further more, it’s not even complete.  This arm’s general appearance is good and when attached to a figure it will present well. Importantly, all six finger tips and the elbow spur are present and undamaged. It doesn’t appear to be cracked or be contaminated with glue residue at the ball joint, either. It just needs a little cleaning to get some of the dust and gank off it and it will look terrific. That’s no big deal of itself. Some hot water, mild dish washing detergent and an old toothbrush will work perfectly to remove any mange that is currently adhering to this limb.

The real problem is its actual attachment is missing. Absent from this piece is the rubber loop where this piece attaches to the figure’s torso rendering this piece incomplete. The other end of this severed anchor will still be loose within the limb and shaking the arm will force the unrecoverable stump to rattle inside. Sure, there are as many ways to reattach these limbs to the figure you could care to invent but that still fails to alter the fact this limb is incomplete. For US$49.99 you would want that neoprene feature intact, too. Nonetheless, this loose item will sell.  It will be sold to whoever makes the best offer. That’s a surety.

eBay – Pair of Tongue Halves for Sale.

Currently for auction on eBay is this pair of 1979 Kenner ALIEN tongue halves. These matching pieces are often missing from the old vintage toy and lately it would appear their value has increased dramatically. The Good News is, it’s a complete pair being made for offer here. The Bad News is the seller expects to sell them for a high price. Bidding starts at US$125. How many people really want a pair of these things at this price? it will be an interesting auction to watch.Needless to say, it’s clearly a high starting point to commence bidding. For this kind of money you would want them to be in immaculate condition, at the very least. It’s hard to determine if that is the case on these images due to the fact the vac metal surface on the front may be displaying damage or they are simply reflections of a nearby dark surface. As someone recently commented on Facebook regarding one of these sales they would expect these pieces to be made of silver. That’s not an unreasonable expectation considering the asking price, but no. They are not.  They’re just vac coated styrene. Completely worthless materials – except for the demand that surrounds them due to their age and them being in this shape, that is. Crazy stuff either way.

MegaBox Queen BBTS Pre-Order.

Big Bad Toy Store have announced pre-orders for the upcoming MegaBox transformable ALIENS Queen figure by Japanese toy company, 52toys.  It is a follow up to their earlier MegaBox Alien figure released a couple of years ago which featured a Big  Chap with the similar feature of being able to fold into a pocket size cube. Here’s the word from BBTS, “Based on the 1986 Alien sequel, the MegaBox MB-10 features the Alien Queen as a transformable figure. This Alien Queen figure can change from menacing monster to a compact cube form.” The folding figure is made from translucent ABS and stands at almost 5 inches and folds down into a 2 inch convex polyhedron. eBay – Repaired Kenner ALIEN for Sale.

UPDATED: This listing has ended, presumed sold for US$145.

Here’s a 1979 Kenner ALIEN toy on eBay that’s had its arms severed and had them repaired. The arms often break off these four decades old toys and incomplete figures missing limbs are common. Let’s take a look at this forlorn, broken down old toy. It’s not just the arms on this item that are glued in place but the legs are too.  Such repairs as these render these normally articulated joints immovable making the figure  permanently fixed in this stance. The tail, hands and tongue all look like they can operate as normal but the major limbs will not move. That’s a sad waste of a potentially good figure that could have otherwise been salvaged and fully repaired retaining its full articulation. Continue reading

NECA Reveals 40th Anniversary 7 Inch ALIEN Packaging.

It’s Facehugger Friday and we all know what that means, right Kiddies?  Right!  NECA revealed on Facebook today images of the packaging for their upcoming 7 inch REEL TOYS 40th Anniversary ALIEN action figures.  Much like their recently released 22 inch figure, these are themed along the same retro package design of the original Kenner ALIEN box as it appeared on toy store shelves in 1979.NECA have also provided us with a shot of their upcoming Brett figure facing the Alien.  Complete with Jones in the background.  I wonder if Jones will be an accessory to the Brett figure as much as he was an accessory to his murder.  Anyway, here’s what NECA have to say about this release of figures, “The Alien 40th Anniversary collection is coming. 3 series of 3 figures each. Some amazing figure debuts! New accessories! Printed facial deco! Special packaging! Limited editions!!” Continue reading

eBay – High Quality 1979 Kenner ALIEN Toy for Sale.

UPDATE: This listing has ended. Sold for US$449

If you’re wondering what a high quality Kenner ALIEN is worth, one that is complete in every way, shows very little signs of wear and displays perfectly, then one is currently available on eBay right now. How much is a specimen in this excellent condition actually worth?  The vendor wants a hefty US$499 for this superior sample of a vintage styrene toy.

No cracks, blemishes or fingers missing. The dome is present and looks perfect, the glow in the dark paint on the head is free of scratches, rub marks and bruising. It all looks pretty good to me. Even the ability of the figure to hold a pose is very good. Maybe it’s had its arms restrung as maintaining a pose like this is extremely uncommon. Nonetheless, it’s a fantastic sample of this vintage toy. US$499 is a lot to pay for an old toy but I have seen similar quality samples of the Kenner ALIEN action figure sell for around this much before.  Usually, at this price a box may potentially be included and you can start to expect one at this price; but no such packaging or poster is present in this sale. Just one straight standing, good looking 1979 Kenner ALIEN toy.

Lanard Toys ALIEN Collection Range Expected to Expand.

A source close to Lanard Toys informs me their recently released range of children’s toys based on characters from the ALIEN movies has been successful enough to approve of “More sets coming! And Thanks for supporting the brand. The Alien Collection success is because of kids everywhere, and because of you, the fans.” This information comes indirectly from William of Lanard Customer Relations.

I’m sure young Wayne Phillips pictured here will be enthralled with this News as More sets have been approved for walmart later this year.” No further information is available right now or what the next wave of ALIEN toys will include but I understand Lanard Toys have aspirations to release bigger and more ambitious product by the end of this year. This is welcome News, I say.

eBay – Loose 1979 Kenner ALIEN Parts for Sale.

During the past week or so, there’s been quite a few loose parts for Kenner ALIEN toys listed on eBay.  It looks like two different figures by two different sellers have disassembled a pair of toys and are now listing them as individual pieces. The great thing about this toy is its ability to be completely disassembled  without damaging it and replacing degraded parts with superior samples purchased online.

At one stage, at least one complete set of parts was available – possibly two – but critical pieces that are in high demand such as any domes, shoulder crests and tongues sell very quickly and are now gone.  Many pieces still remain with the last tongue piece, an arm, a tail and a head will typically follow next to become unavailable.  Usually the front torso and legs are the final items remaining to be sold. Eventually, they will all go, regardless of price. Continue reading

eBay – 1979 Kenner ALIEN Toy for Sale.

UPDATE: Sold for US$91 (3 bids).

You’d be forgiven for believing these things are rare. They are 40 years old. They didn’t sell well. And yet, there’s always another listing added to eBay almost daily. Usually being sold for a ridiculous price, regardless of condition. Oh, then. Surprise, surprise!  Here’s another one of these beat up old ugly ass toys that no one wants.  Who would’ve guessed? Currently being auctioned on eBay with a starting bid of US$99.

This action figure is missing the same four parts commonly absent from these old toys. The dome, crest and both tongue pieces are missing. There’s nothing unusual about that. Most figures are missing them, now.  Upwards of 60% can be absent, depending on which part. His arm is severed but included in the listing, which is a good thing and can be reattached relatively easily. The glow in the dark paint is a little scuffed and he could probably do with a nice warm bath with some mild kitchen detergent, an old toothbrush and a rubber duck. Other than that, he’s a fine, almost average condition sample. Figures in this state often sell for US$120 to US$150. Give or take depending on who’s bidding.

Either way, it’s a safe bet this item will sell for over US$100; even if it is broken, beat up, dirty and incomplete. Amazing.

eBay – Lower Tongue Half for Sale.

UPDATE – This listing has ended, presumed sold. That didn’t take long. An hour or two.

For sale on eBay right now is a lower half of a 1979 Kenner ALIEN toy tongue. The seller is asking US$70 for this 1.5 inch long piece of plastic.

These vac metal coated pieces are grouped in pairs inside the old toy’s mouth and comprise the moving tongue that exits the maw when the trigger on the back of the head is activated.  Most frequently, the upper tongue half is lost. Nonetheless, the lower half (the piece on offer here) or both can be missing. This lower half appears to be in good condition with minimum wearing of the coating.  It’s a nice looking piece but as these things usually sell for around US$25, substantially more is being asked for here.  You already figured that out, right?  Someone will probably buy it – after offering a lot less for it.

Eaglemoss ALIEN Abduction Statue.

I know I posted this item previously but I didn’t have any details. Now I have details. Anyway, Eaglemoss are releasing a new 8 inch tall version of the creature featured in ALIEN.  This item displays the Big Chap in a pose inspired by the one it takes when it abducts Dallas from inside the air vents.  Looks like a good piece, too. The MEGA Alien Vent Attack Xenomorph is the eighth Edition in their MEGA series of static ALIEN figures. Here’s what Eaglemoss have to say about this item, “Your MEGA Alien Vent Attack Xenomorph Figurine has been cast in specially formulated metallic resin and painted by hand to show the alien part-way through in its iconic lunge with a gun under his feet. It captures the alien’s incredibly detailed exoskeleton, long talons, and coiled tail and stands over 25.5 cm tall on a vent like base.”

Limited to only 2,000 pieces, this item will be released on 1/04/2020, just in time for ALIEN Day this year. Nice timing. Pricing will be GBP109.99.

NECA Reveals Rhino Alien Packaging

It’s Facehugger Friday, and we all know what that means, kiddies. Today on Twitter, NECA revealed the packaging their upcoming Rhino Alien figure will appear in.

We saw the artwork of the creature to be displayed on the packaging just last week so here it is applied to the box. This brutish fiend is the latest in NECA’s line of Kenner tribute ALIEN action figures. Here’s what NECA have to say about this imageWe can’t forget #facehuggerfriday here’s your first look at the Rhino packaging…sweet sweet nostalgia.” Sweet sweet weird junk, if you ask me.  I’m game and can’t get enough of it. No release information or pricing details are available just yet.

eBay – 1979 Kenner ALIEN with Severed Head.

UPDATE: This listing has ended.  Sold for US$110.00

Here’s something you don’t see every day. This beat up old toy is RARE! RARE! RARE! It’s a 1979 Kenner ALIEN toy on eBay! Nah. Don’t believe it. It’s complete bullshit. These things are not rare; and Yes. They do appear on eBay every day. Look. Here’s another one.

This one has had his head severed …and mutilated at the neck. Is all hope lost for this forlorn, broke ass old toy? Nope. Not at all. The seller wants US$125 for it. Let’s take a closer look at this figure and see what can be done with him. Continue reading

TOYARK Reviews NECA 40th Anniversary Big Chap.

TOYARK have posted a full review and image gallery of NECA’s 40th Anniversary 7 inch Ultimate Big Chap action figure due out soon. They seem to like it. This version of the figure features updated sculpting, improved articulation and some accessories such as the egg, facehugger and chestburster. It all comes packaged in a nice, neat ALIEN poster themed gatefold box with a window displaying the figure when opened. Look, I think it’s just easier if you go read the review, alright?

Thanks for the appraisal, TOYARK. I’ve always loved your work.

eBay – Armless 1979 Kenner ALIEN Toy.

UPDATE: This item is no longer listed, presumed sold for US$275.

Ah, it’s another one of these figures demonstrating a lack of upper limbs on eBay.  Samples of these figures missing one or both arms is common so it’s no surprise, really.  It’s why the arms, as loose individual listings on eBay, get snapped up pretty fast.  An ALIEN toy missing his dome or dorsal crest is one thing – but missing his arms – that’s another level of incompleteness altogether as the toy can display well without either of the other pieces but lacking these limbs is overtly obvious.  As we can see here. So, once again, both legs, tail, quad dorsal appendages are present.  As is the head, which is a little scuffed about but at least the jaws appear to work.  While listed for US$275 (or Make Offer) it’s definitely not worth that kind of money. The Kenner Snake Alien included in the listing does nothing to justify the price.  That 1992 vintage toy is worth about US$10.  While there is nothing particularly special about this figure to justify it’s price, it does present other opportunities to understand a little known feature of these figures that is worth knowing. Eaglemoss Alien Air Vent Abduction Pose Figurine.

It looks like speculation regarding Eaglemoss support of the ALIEN property ending after 50 different production pieces can be put to rest. These images of their upcoming Alien hand painted Mega scale figure have been doing the rounds lately definitely fall well outside of anyone’s expectations and put those rumors to bed. The pose of the anticipated 8 inch (Approximately 1:6 scale) metallic resin piece replicates the Alien’s crouching position as it intercepted and abducted Dallas while he was crawling around in the Nostromo’s air vents, attempting to flush the creature into the airlock with the flamethrower which is also present in this piece. It didn’t end too well for Dallas, now did it? No release details or pricing is available at this time.

Thank you Michael Floyd for additional information on this piece.

eBay – 1979 Kenner ALIEN with Cracked Dome.

UPDATE – Sold for US$180.50, with 3 bidders participating.

Right now on eBay is an original 1979 Kenner ALIEN toy listed for auction.  It appears to be complete but it does have a couple of problems. Not too many but his flaws mean he’s not in the greatest condition and does have one small caveat. Let’s take a look at this fellow.Bidding starts at US$150 and the seller is offering the option to Buy Now at US$250. Not a bad deal despite the deficiencies this sample exhibits.  Aside from the mutilated dome, which looks like the figure has had a nasty face plant and shattered the piece, it also has the lower right quad dorsal appendage rotated out of alignment which indicates internal damage to the piece. Not a killer issue of itself but still noteworthy as part of its condition.  The four decades old toy is also covered in dust from long years of neglect.  Continue reading

Lanard ALIEN Toys and Children: A Perfect Mix.

It’s been a good many years since we have seen ALIEN themed toys overtly marketed at children. 40 years ago, the first Kenner ALIEN action figure, rated “AGES 5 AND UP” was released to retail and was received by the buying public as bemused at best and reviled at worst. It flopped miserably at retail and it’s failure was largely attributed to the toy based on an R-rated movie with it’s target market being children who weren’t permitted to see it due to the movie’s gruesome nature.

The failure of the Kenner toy ensured the company wouldn’t return to the series for over a decade, completely avoiding and sidestepping the manufacture of children’s toys based on the 1986 sequel, ALIENS. As a result, no toys or action figures intended for children were released based on that movie during the time of its release. 1992 would be the first year of Kenner’s wildly imaginative ALIENS series of toys to make up for that oversight. These were also based on R-rated media but given a decidedly child friendly ambience, rating them at an even lower age group of “AGES 4 AND UP”. Acceptability for such product was becoming more mainstream and for the next six years, Kenner delivered such product.

Then, in 2000 Kenner was shut down by it’s parent company, Hasbro. Extant Kenner product lines were absorbed by Hasbro while other licences, ALIEN for example, were deemed outside of Hasbro’s family friendly mandate and subsequently abandoned.

Since the beginning of this century, no manufacturer has been prepared to step up to bat for kids who might like to play with such things. Other manufacturers have indeed released product age rated as such, but still intended for a more mature collector market. Until now. It appears budget manufacturer, Lanard Toys, feels it’s time to bring ALIENS back into the family lounge room with an affordable price tag attached. 2020 will be remembered among fans, toy enthusiasts and families for doing just that. Mid January, at the time of this writing, sees Lanard stocking Walmart toy shelves with their own interpretation of ALIENS toys – product specifically made to appeal to children. Continue reading
