Busted up Kenner ALIEN for Sale.

The other day, a perfectly preserved near “mint” 1979 Kenner ALIEN sold on eBay for a staggering US$9,100. Considerably outside most people’s budget for this kind of thing. Today, a lesser quality item has become listed on eBay. It’s broken, missing a couple of valuable parts and certainly doesn’t include a box or poster. Yet, this is an ideal sample for restoration if you are motivated to perform such activities. Bidding starts at US$137 for this forty year old derelict ALIEN toy. Cheap! This isn’t a straight up build and it won’t deliver a complete figure, either. It will, however, result in a very nice, display worthy figure with some TLC. Missing is the dome that covers the head and the crest on its back. These are commonly missing pieces and sought after by collectors. They are not necessary to achieve the desired result of getting this toy back together again. Continue reading

NECA Reveal Night Cougar Alien.

Facehugger Friday is upon us and we all know what that means, right Kiddies? Yeah! That’s right NECA is showing off the latest item in their range of ALIEN goodies. This time ’round it’s another cool 1990s Kenner ALIENS tribute figure, the Night Cougar Alien. It has been revealed on the NECA official Facebook page. Oooooh Goodie! lol. Looks neat and I’m sure the packaging will be supurb but it does look like someone has customised a NECA Dog Alien and painted it in red and black Essendon football club team colours. Anyway, here’s what NECA have to say about this upcoming item Drawing inspiration from the classic Expanded Universe Aliens of the early 1990s, our team has transformed this Kenner classic into a modern version with all of today’s detail and articulation. Night Cougar Alien measures approximately 9″ long and features a bendable tail, plus a detachable drone that magnetically attaches to its back! The packaging is an homage to the classic Kenner art, featuring custom illustrations and a color palette reminiscent of the toy shelves of the early ’90s. Wow… so it will include a “detachable drone”? Well, that’s nice. It looks like the Night Cougar Alien will retain at least a semblance of the action feature of the original toy that similar NECA tribute items have been deprived of. That’s kinda neat, actually. No pricing is available on this item just yet but it is expected to be released sometime late this year in December.

1979 Kenner ALIEN Sells for US$9,100.

I haven’t posted about any Kenner ALIEN toys lately so let’s call this one to your attention. Here’s one in an unopened box that sold recently for US$9,100. Yeah. You read that right. 25 bids made by 12 bidders has ensured the seller will be paying off a fair chunk of his mortgage this month. Don’t forget the US$15 postage, either.  I know we’re living in crazy times with the world struggling against a global health crisis, floods and fires everywhere along with other political dramas and social upheavals unfolding in a wide variety of nations across the globe so it strikes me with more than just a little sense of inequity that a forty year old toy can sell for more than the combined annual income of two dozen families in Bangladesh. Mezco One-12 ALIEN Figure Pre-Order.

Mezco have opened pre-orders for their upcoming One:12 Collective Alien figure. This 7 inch tall (1:12 scale) item features an all-new seamless body designed with a durable and highly posable internal skeleton armature.

Other features include, “a hinged pharyngeal jaw and interchangeable inner mouths, as well as an interchangeable chest plate pierced by the ASSO-400 Harpoon Grappling Gun, as seen in the final scene of the movie … other film-accurate accessories including a coiled Facehugger that can fit over the heads of most other One:12 Collective figures, an open Facehugger, a Chestburster, and an open and closed Ovomorph egg.”  This sounds like a great package and a departure from Mezco’s more stylised items we have seen in the past. The internal armature based figure is very similar in construction to the Medicom Real Action Heroes ALIEN figured released way back in 2005. This figure is going to look great on display as no visible joins will spoil the presentation of the figure no matter what pose it is in. The current price is US$100 and is expected to ship First Quarter, 2022.

Nerf M41A Pulse Blaster Pre-Orders.

Hasbro are celebrating the 35th Anniversary of ALIENS by releasing a limited edition and functional Nerf replica of the M41A pulse rifle, capturing authentic details inspired by the equipment of the film’s Colonial Marine Corps. This item is now available for pre-order and expected to arrive sometime after October. Here’s a checklist of features this upcoming release will boast, “Captures the look of the iconic M41-A Pulse Blaster, with Power Loader inspired design and dual-blasting action. Features an electronic dart counter and movie-accurate blasting sounds. Measures over two feet long (28 inches) and comes fully assembled in premium packaging, perfect for display. Select from fully-motorized fly-wheel Elite or pump-action Mega dart blasting.” This sounds like a terrific item that should have been on toy shelves years ago. Then again, it’s probably taken Hasbro all this time to accommodate a product of this nature that primarily inspired by equipment featured in an R-rated movie. ALIEN is a property generally considered to be outside of Hasbro’s “family friendly” mandate. I’m hoping to see more ALIEN themed product from Hasbro. The acceptable discordance of product based on an R-rated series being marketed towards children is more intriguing and head scratching rather than concerning. Bring it.

NECA Reveal AvP Video Game Alien Variants.

NECA have formally announced their upcoming and updated series of ALIENS vs PREDATOR video game themed Alien action figures on Facebook. Last week’s Facehugger Friday content revealed these are the same characters previously released but given a movie makeover rather than a video game appearance. They do look like they would be very much at home in the cinema, away from the bubblegum and lollypop colours of their original video game incarnation. Here’s what NECA have to say about this offering, The classic 1994 arcade game Aliens vs Predator predates the AVP movie, but what if….? NECA presents the mashup you’ve been dying to see! The unique Alien adversaries seen in the video game get the movie treatment, with new deco and updated articulation imagining their look had they been included in the subsequent movie. The figures use the super-poseable Ultimate body, with over 30 points of articulation and bendable tail. Approximately 9″ tall. Window box packaging. Sounds neat to me. These will be available at Walmart stores sometime this month with a wider release soon to follow.
